“Friendships between women, as any woman will tell you, are built of a thousand small kindnesses…swapped back and forth and over again,” says Michelle Obama. At The Table, our focus lies in fostering kindness and exchanging these acts of goodwill.

When asked if they were satisfied with the number and depth of female friendships and if they had tried friend-making apps, women in the Triangle replied:
“I do not have the amount of friendships that I desire.”
“The process of making new friends is hard. Honestly, when I have found people whom I would really like to befriend closely either I or they have had some life thing occurring which limited our ability to give it the right time and attention.”
“Unless you are proactive, making new connections can be very challenging.”
“It’s hard [to make friends] on Meetup as different people show up to different events so…you don’t have a chance to really build connections…”
“It seems like making friends takes time and experience.”
“I’ve used Bumble and [it] has been challenging. While people are on there to make new friends, most actually don’t respond when you send a message…If you’ve turned off notifications it’s an app that you can quickly forget about.”
“I’m very glad to have my Meetup groups, but most people have busy lives and/or live far away. It’s tough to make friends as an adult. Proximity matters more than we realize. I’d love to meet friendly, like-minded people who live close by and have time to socialize outside of their work and family obligations.”
